About Alicia McKay - CEO
Born and raised in Detroit, Alicia McKay attended Bates Academy and then University Liggett School. After graduation, she ventured to Rice University in Houston, Texas to study Sociology. Immediately after graduation, she came back to Detroit and passionately transitioned into the education field. She earned her Masters in Education in 2012 from Purdue University Global.
Alicia shares her 20+ years of experience in leadership, business consulting, and education to focus on her mission of promoting personal growth, developing small businesses, building independent authors, and creating innovative youth programming to enhance communities through math and science. She has been an educator for over 15 years as a teacher, tutor, academic coach, academic director, mentor, and math interventionist.
As a strong believer in closing the learning gap, Alicia is focused on positively impacting the educational opportunities within southeastern Michigan. With ingenuity, aspiration, and creativity, Alicia is the founder of No Fear Cafe, The BooksmART Box, and Ready to Learn Circles. She previously served her community as President and trustee of the School Board for the City of Harper Woods. She currently sits as President of the board for The Literacy Project, a non-profit organization. For the last 15 years she has developed and led effective workshops, lessons, and curriculum to help clients to reach their truest potential.
